Guidelines for Photographers:
We look forward to working with you in the photo sessions at Meadowlark, and helping you to get the pictures that you want.  However, since your subjects are wild raptors (albeit ones that are reasonably comfortable around people), we would like to set out a few guidelines to help us all have a better and more productive photo shoot. Thanks!

1. Photographers will remain at a minimum of six feet from the birds.

2. The birds will wear small leather anklets, plus jesses and a leash for safety.  The bird will remain on the handler’s gloved fist during the shoot.  One bird will be out at a time.

3. If in the judgement of the handler a bird shows stress, it will be returned to it’s transport container and another bird (probably of a different species) will be substituted.

4. Photography sessions will be for a maximum of 45 minutes, and will be limited to a maximum of five photographers per session.

5. Photographers may sign up for specific sessions. Reservations will be accepted in the order received.  The fee will be $20.00 per photographer per session.

6. Requests for particular species that are available that day will be entertained.  Up to three species may be used during one session.

7. Requests from photographers for particular angles, etc., will be entertained by the handler. However, the safety and comfort of neither the bird nor the handler will be compromised.  The handler’s decision in all matters will be final.

8. Since this shoot is being held outdoors in February, inclement weather may force a change in location or even cancellation of the photo shoot.

Photograph Hawks and Owls from The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia (RCV)
Enjoy the opportunity to photograph hawks and owls up close. You'll be close enough to capture frame-filling shots of these wonderful animals. Besides a chance for great photographs, this is a heartwarming demonstration of the outstanding efforts of The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia. This dedicated team of volunteers rescues, treats, rehabilitates, and, if possible, releases raptors. The photo shoot is held outdoors; please dress appropriately for the weather. For only $20 you can photograph the raptors for 45 minutes. All proceeds go directly to The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia. Register in person at the Meadowlark Visitor Center during the Expo (pre-registration is not available).
